For this Spring the new release is Narciso Rodriguez Fleur Musc, a soft but bold scent for women which open with musk and then suddenly jits you with a lovely smell of pink pepper, roses, and peonies.  For being in a pink bottle and having flowery notes this is not at all a sweet fragrance, which makes me love it even more. 

It opens with a vibrant burst of pink pepper that is overtaken by the flowery middle notes of roses and peonies. If you love musk like I do, you'll find it intermixed with these pink flowers and with it will come the energy of its silky texture making it at the same time a rich, warm, and embracing fragrance. Gradually, it settles into a sensual and soft scent with Patchouli and Amber. 

The result is perhaps one of Narciso Rodriguez’s most elegant and sensual creations. It is as feminine, creamy and comforting as it is deep and elegant. It is suitable for every occasion but without trying to be a sweet crowd pleaser. In some way, Narciso Rodriguez fragrances find the perfect balance of notes.

When I was a teenager I had heard that gifting a fragrance brings the relationship to end because the relationship would fade like the scent. It was the same for gifts like a watch that meant that the relationship would end once the watch stopped ticking or a brooch that was regarded as a gift that might stab a person’s heart creating pain for the relationship. Teenagers can be so overly dramatic. And because of these stupid beliefs, I had lots of Teddy Bears as Valentine's gifts and once was gifted a bunny rabbit that hid for days behind a cupboard and eventually was brought back to the pet shop to be exchanged for 2 lovebirds. Back to adulthood and every thoughtful gift is accepted with immense pleasure and we are mature enough to know that gifting pets is a no-no.

If anyone knows how to do Christmas, it is Jo Malone London. They know how to make festive dreams coming true. I've been obsessed with their perfumes and candles since the time I was living in London, and finally a few years back it opened also in Milan. 

They have managed to make art out of their fragrances through fragrance combining, relaxing experiences in store like hand massages and beautiful gift wrapping.

Jo Malone London's Fragrance Combining has been the reason I first approached the brand. It gives the opportunity to style your own fragrance to express your individuality. It is also very interesting to layer fragrances for different occasions. You can make fresh fruity fragrances winter ready by adding some warmer or spicy notes or making floral fragrances fresher by adding fruity citrus notes.  The same goes for candles that can be lit together to mix their scents in the air and have a different result every time depending on the combinations. 

My favorite cologne has always been Pear & Freesia, so when I had to pick a Christmas gift for the boyfriend I was helped by the Jo Malone stylist in picking Pomegranate Noir that is perfect as a winter fragrance for men, but also can be added to my Pear & Freesia to make it more wintery for me. I also picked Peony & Blush Suede that also becomes warmer with the addition of the Pomegranate Noir.

Jo Malone London:  the art of customization

For these Holidays I headed to the Milan stores of Corso Magenta and Via Manzoni to get my gifts customized. Fragrances and candles could be customized with engraved letters, phrases, or holiday wishes in beautiful handmade calligraphy. In alternative holiday ornaments could be customized to add a personal touch to the Christmas Tree.

As a girl who loves beautiful boxes, my collection of Jo Malone ones has been taking over the office desk, the library, the bedside table and the makeup table as well. I've grown up celebrating my mom on the 8th of March, on Women's Day, together with the other important women in my life like my grandmother, aunts, and best friends. Since moving to Italy I've discovered that there is a special day dedicated just to mothers on the second Sunday of May. While it makes sense to have a whole day specially dedicated to motherhood, I was curious to know how this day came to be. Asking my Italian friends they told me that given May is the month dedicated to Virgin Mary, the second Sunday of May was chosen to celebrate all mothers. According to my more knowledgeable friend Wikipedia, Mother's Day was some lady's idea back in 1905 who campaigned to have this day as a recognized holiday to honor her own mother and all the mothers of the World whose contributions to society needed recognition. Well done Anna Jarvis!

Back to Mother's Day 2016 and I've been converted to celebrating the day with some special shopping for my mom. She has been the one starting my passion for fragrances from childhood. While I wasn't myself using perfumes when a child, I have specific memories of holidays, family trips, parties that are connected with specific fragrances she used to wear.  Even today if I smell a certain fragrance or note when I close my eyes I can go back to our Greek holidays, my 12 birthday, or to another event. So every year she gets a new fragrance from me and I create new memories directly related to her scent. This year my choice has been My Burberry Eau de Toilette, a fresh interpretation of the original My Burberry EdP. I love how the EdT version is light and airy, perfect for a warmer season and ready for a special event to be associated with. And this year this special event will be my brother's wedding.

On top, the citrus freshness of the bergamot was replaced by the lemon flower to give the Eau de Toilette its brightness. Whereas the Eau de Parfum included patchouli at its base, a lighter, woody accord of musk and white moss brings sensuality and radiance to the Eau de Toilette. Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Forever Fragrance

As a kid I remember playing the “loves me, loves me not” game, eagerly picking off flower petals to see if I had a future with my childhood crush. It was always my go-to when deciding if a relationship was meant to be, as I put all my faith in the flower to choose it’s fate. I remember anxiously picking each petal one by one, counting ahead to see if he “loved me”. If the result was that he “loved me not”, I reassured myself by deciding I had accidentally picked the wrong flower, and would try again with a new, more accurate, one. While I haven’t recently played to this game to see if I have found my future husband, I am sure there is a daisy app that I could find on my iPhone to re-live this favorite pastime.

In 2007, Marc Jacobs brought me back to my childhood with the release, and beginning, of the Daisy fragrance collection. It was an instant success with the bottle as fresh and feminine as the scent itself. This Eau de Toilette has fruity top notes of pink grapefruit, strawberry, and violet leaf. Its heart is filled with floral fields of gardenia, violet, and jasmine. Lastly, the powdery base is a combination of white woods, vanilla, and musk. This fragrance remains refreshingly playful while still being suited for the sophisticated woman.

Four years after Daisy came out, the highly anticipated Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh was released. With an even brighter packaging this scent is a more fruity, more playful version of the original. The top and some of the main notes of the fragrance are grapefruit, raspberry, green notes, and pear. The heart notes are filled with jasmine, rose, violet, litchi, and apple blossom. The light, woody base notes are a composition of musk, Virginia cedar, and plum. Daisy Dream Forever consists of the same light, airy inspiration as Daisy Dream but with a stronger scent longevity. Top notes open with blackberries, grapefruit, and pear. The heart notes combine flowers of blue wisteria, jasmine, and litchi, and the base notes remain simple yet strong consisting solely of white woods. With this scent Daisy has grown up from her original playful innocence to having a more elegant, yet free-spirited sophistication.
